Questions about Pileup

Description

Hi,
On the pileup workbook page (https://cp3.irmp.ucl.ac.be/projects/delphes/wiki/WorkBook/PileUp), a MinBias.pileup file is provided (as well as a smaller one bundled with the source). However, it is given with no additional information. Could someone responsible please post information about what is contained in this file? For example, I had to convert this file back to .root format and plot "Sum$(Particle.E)" just to figure out that it's a 14 TeV sample; I have already seen people blinding applying this file for other energies.

Useful information would be:

  • event generator used
  • sqrt(s)
  • pdf set

Even better (but a less modest request) would be if someone could post full instructions as to how one can generate their own .pileup file from scratch (i.e. starting with the event generation). I understand that describing sherpa/pythia/whatever is probably outside of scope of the Delphes documentation. But as long as someone on your side has already gone through the trouble of figuring this out, it would be nice to have a recipe to save others' time ;)

Hello,

thanks for the feedback. I have updated the twiki information and included in the repository the Pythia8 configuration file used for generation of the MinBias file.

https://cp3.irmp.ucl.ac.be/projects/delphes/wiki/WorkBook/PileUp

I have also included information on how to generate that file within Delphes (modulo interface to Pythia8).
