#1503 new Bug

Bring back the DelphesHepMC executable for compatibility with Madgraph?

Description

Dear Delphes authors,

I usually run Delphes in combination with Pythia8 and Madgraph, but I install the latest version of Delphes via git (because installing it via Madgraph leads to problems with my setup).

When I did that a few days ago I then encountered the problem that the latest Delphes version cannot run with Madgraph because Madgraph uses the executable named "DelphesHepMC", but the names in Delphes are now "DelphesHepMC2" and "DelphesHepMC3".

Would it be possible to re-introduce an executable named "DelphesHepMC", so that Delphes can work with other programs without having to roll it back to the last version in git where the executable was named this way?

Best,
Emma

Dear Emma,

Please send this bug report to the MadGraph developers.

There are now two incompatible HepMC formats and we have to introduce DelphesHepMC2 and DelphesHepMC3 to work with these formats.

Since we don't know how these formats are managed by MadGraph, it's up to the MadGraph developers to update their scripts and select the correct Delphes program depending on the format.

I don't think it's possible to re-introduce DelphesHepMC because it's unclear what format it should read HepMC2 or HepMC3.

Best regards,

Pavel

Please try to reinstall Delphes using MadGraph. This should install the latest version of Delphes with all the known problems fixed.
