16 | It is always delicate to know whether theoretical predictions are visible
|

17 | and measurable in a high energy collider experiment due to the complexity
|
---|
18 | of the related detectors, data acquisition chain and software. We introduce
|
---|
19 | here a new C++ based framework, DELPHES, for fast simulation of a general-
|
---|
20 | purpose experiment. The simulation includes a tracking system, embedded into
|
---|
21 | a magnetic field, calorimetry and a muon system, and possible very forward
|
---|
22 | detectors arranged along the beamline. The framework is interfaced to standard
|
---|
23 | file formats (e.g. Les Houches Event File) and outputs observable objects for
|
---|
24 | analysis, like missing transverse energy and collections of electrons or jets.
|
---|
25 | The simulation of detector response takes into account the detector resolution,
|
---|
26 | and usual reconstruction algorithms, such as FASTJET. A simplified preselection
|
---|
27 | can also be applied on processed data for trigger emulation. Detection of
|
---|
28 | very forward scattered particles relies on the transport in beamlines with
|
---|
29 | the HECTOR software. Finally, the FROG 2D/3D event display is used for
|
---|
30 | visualisation of the collision final states. An overview of DELPHES is given
|
---|
31 | as well as a few LHC use-cases for illustration.
