| 16 | It is always delicate to know whether theoretical predictions are visible
---|
| 17 | and measurable in a high energy collider experiment due to the complexity
---|
| 18 | of the related detectors, data acquisition chain and software. We introduce
---|
| 19 | here a new C++ based framework, DELPHES, for fast simulation of a general-
---|
| 20 | purpose experiment. The simulation includes a tracking system, embedded into
---|
| 21 | a magnetic field, calorimetry and a muon system, and possible very forward
---|
| 22 | detectors arranged along the beamline. The framework is interfaced to standard
---|
| 23 | file formats (e.g. Les Houches Event File) and outputs observable objects for
---|
| 24 | analysis, like missing transverse energy and collections of electrons or jets.
---|
| 25 | The simulation of detector response takes into account the detector resolution,
---|
| 26 | and usual reconstruction algorithms, such as FASTJET. A simplified preselection
---|
| 27 | can also be applied on processed data for trigger emulation. Detection of
---|
| 28 | very forward scattered particles relies on the transport in beamlines with
---|
| 29 | the HECTOR software. Finally, the FROG 2D/3D event display is used for
---|
| 30 | visualisation of the collision final states. An overview of DELPHES is given
---|
| 31 | as well as a few LHC use-cases for illustration.
