Your tasks
At least 90% of your assignment will be spent on academic research.
You will be contributing to the EOS project "High-dimensional expanders and Kac-Moody-Steinberg groups". More information can be found on https://algebra.ugent.be/~tdemedts/EOS2024.pdf.
You will be part of various larger teams: on the one hand, you will be a department member; on the other hand, you will be part of a research team across the two universities (UGent and UCLouvain).
You will be invited to take part in educational activities, such as teaching an advanced master course (in English).
What we are looking for
You hold a thesis-based doctorate in Mathematics (or equivalent).
You have team spirit and a strong ability to work in a larger group. In addition, you have good communicative skills.
You are perseverant and dedicated.
What we can offer you
We offer you a contract of indefinite duration with a term of 2 years (potentially extendable by at most one year).
The starting date of your position can be discussed. A typical starting date is October 1, 2024.
You will have ample funds for research visits, conferences, inviting guests, ... (after approval of your promotor).
We can offer language classes in Dutch (UGent) and French (UCLouvain).

a motivation letter including your research vision (at most 2 pages).
a narrative description of your past research (at most 2 pages).
your vision on potential career developments (next career move, post-stay placement strategy, ...) (at most 1 page).
a transcript of the required degree (if already in your possession). If you have a foreign diploma in a language other than our national languages (Dutch, French or German) or English, please add a translation in one of the mentioned languages.
In addition, you will be asked to give the name and email address of three referees; once you validate your choice of referees, they will automatically be sent a link to upload their reference letter, before the submission deadline (please contact your referees in advance to make sure they agree to send a reference letter).
