Chasing Dark Matter: From Light to HeavyDark matter, which constitutes a major fraction of the Universe, remains one of the central unresolved problems in physics. In this talk, I will outline how its identity can be probed through cost-effective approaches. In the first part, I will show how stellar environments can serve as laboratories for light axions, with emphasis on their production via nuclear transitions, providing a direct and sensitive detection channel. In the second part, I will discuss the detection of ultra-heavy dark matter using paleo detection techniques, highlighting novel methods based on track signatures preserved in ancient mica samples.

I review the state-of-art in minimal grandunified theories. I show that the minimal SU(5) theory, the original Georgi-Glashow model, augmented by higher dimensional operators - in spite of decades long necrologies, many written by me - is alive and well, albeit living dangerously. It predicts light scalar particles that populate the desert bewteen the weak and the GUT scales - and next generation of proton decay experiments, now starting, could imply that these states lie at hadron collider energies. I also discuss minimal SO(10) theory, which is tailor made for neutrino mass, both effective and renormalisable versions. I show that in the former case one also necessarily populates the desert with a plethora of scalar states, while in the latter case one may have new gauge interactions even at the LHC energies, on top of observable low energy processes. Wed May 20 2026 12:15 PM: Duality symmetry and anomaly for gravitational waves in curved spacetimes

The vacuum Einstein equations admit a formulation closely analogous to the source-free Maxwell theory. In particular, the linearized equations exhibit an electric-magnetic duality symmetry. We develop a framework that makes this analogy manifest by explicitly identifying the electric and magnetic components of perturbative gravitational waves. Within this formulation, we show that duality rotations between these gravitoelectric and gravitomagnetic fields constitute a Noether symmetry of the linearized theory, and we derive the associated conserved current. The corresponding conserved charge encodes the difference in intensity between the right- and left-handed circularly polarized components of the gravitational wave—that is, between its self-dual and antiself-dual parts. Remarkably, this conservation law remains valid even when the gravitational perturbations propagate on generic curved back

Fri May 22 2026 11:00 AM: Features of Cosmological Gravitational Wave Backgrounds

New Physics in the early Universe may feature sources of gravitational waves (GWs), that can be searched for at interferometers and Pulsar Timing Arrays (PTAs).In this talk, we provide an overview of general properties of such cosmological GWs, that can help in distinguishing them from astrophysical signals. We then focus on cosmic topological defects (specifically, domain walls) as a well-motivated and interesting possible early Universe source of GWs. We present recent progress in the description of their cosmological evolution and their GW signal, as well as on the possibility to produce primordial black holes from their collapse.

I will discuss the recent measurements of Neff and mnu from cosmology that appear to be in contradiction with the predictions of the LCDM model. I will outline the various options to address them with beyond the Standard Model physics focusing on the best motivated particle physics scenarios. In particular, I will discuss the role that light dark sectors may have for them.
