Wed Apr 1 2026 12:15 PM: Minimal Dark Matter: Generalized Framework and Direct-Detection Sensitivity

Numerous models of particle dark matter have been proposed, many of
which remain viable given current experimental and observational
constraints. Minimal dark matter is an extremely attractive option since
it envisions the addition of a single SU(2) multiplet to the standard
model, rather than a complicated array of particles and interactions.
However, experimental limits already rule out a subset of minimal dark
matter possibilities and are approaching the predicted phase space of
the remaining candidates. We consider extensions to the minimal dark
matter paradigm, particularly a combination of two multiplets with a
Higgs coupling, and the non-perturbative effects which may alleviate
this experimental pressure.
Fri Apr 17 2026 11:00 AM: The emergence of galaxies in the first billion years

Galaxy formation in the first billion years marks a time of great upheaval in our cosmic history: the first sources of light in the Universe, these galaxies ended the 'cosmic dark ages' and produced the first photons that could break apart the hydrogen atoms suffusing all of space starting the process of 'cosmic reionization'. The past few years have seen cutting-edge instruments such as the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) provide tantalising glimpses of such galaxies assembling in an infant Universe. Puzzlingly, these observations are also yielding a sample of unexpectedly numerous and large black holes (up to a 100 million solar masses) within the first 600 million years, posing an enormous challenge for galaxy formation models. I will show how this data is providing an unprecedented opportunity to pin down the reionization state of the Universe in addition to providing an unrivalled resource for understanding the reioni

Fri Apr 24 2026 10:00 AM:
New Physics from Geometry

A huge fraction of the signals that could in principle be hiding in LHC data is still unexplored. The difficulty in extracting them is related to a long-standing statistical problem: how to perform a goodness-of-fit test in high-dimensional spaces. I will discuss two new ideas based on a geometric interpretation of collider data. They are completely orthogonal (in a colloquial sense) to existing approaches and scale exponentially better in p-value when the number of input dimensions (collider observables) is increased.

Fri Apr 24 2026 11:30 AM: Dark Matter circa 2026: the WIMPs and beyond the WIMPs

Almost a century after its discovery, Dark Matter has not been identified yet. Even worse, the candidates that were more promising a few years/decades ago, those that the community was betting to find “just around the corner", have not shown up in the ever-improving searches. Hence theorists have gone back to the drawing board and restarted exploring a wider range of possibilities. Many new ideas have been proposed, and some old ideas have been rediscovered. In this talk I will present a (necessarily biased and personal) view of some Dark Matter candidates, as well as their phenomenology. I will argue that the cherished WIMPs (Weakly Interacting Massive Particles) should not be dismissed yet, but also that other candidates are well motivated, interesting and worth looking for. I will keep track of some of the most promising search directions and highlight the current frontiers for phenomenology and experiment
